Curriculum Framework Updates
Under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Undergraduate Education Policy (UEP V1.1) and subsequent operational directives, undergraduate degree programs in Pakistan are subject to unified structural standards. Degree pathways now require a 30-credit-hour General Education core encompassing key subject areas, including expository writing, quantitative reasoning, information and communication technology (ICT), civics, entrepreneurship, and Pakistani ideology and constitution. In addition, single major programs must comprise a minimum of 72 credit hours.
Practical Experience and Industry Alignment
To strengthen practical training, the policy mandates a compulsory 3-credit-hour supervised internship lasting between 6 and 8 weeks, alongside a mandatory capstone project. Degree programs must also integrate industry-relevant professional certifications into their academic structure.
Scope and Implementation
The updated rules apply to students pursuing four-year BS degrees and Associate Degrees at both public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) nationwide, having taken effect in Fall 2023.
