Five of the Federal Board of Revenue's core digital services have been offline since 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, 8 August 2026, and will remain inaccessible until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, 10 August 2026, while the tax authority carries out a planned system maintenance activity. Taxpayers cannot file returns, make payments, register point-of-sale terminals, or issue digital invoices for the duration of the roughly 52-hour window.

Which services are unavailable

The FBR confirmed in a press release issued on 24 July 2026 that the following systems are affected:

  • IRIS - the online portal for filing income tax returns, sales tax returns, and withholding statements
  • Digital Invoicing (DI) - the platform for generating and verifying electronic invoices
  • Payment System - the channel for making electronic tax payments
  • Synchronized Withholding Administration and Payment System (SWAPS) - the system for managing withholding tax deductions and deposits
  • POS Registration - the service for registering and managing point-of-sale terminals linked to the FBR's real-time invoicing regime

No transactions can be performed on any of these platforms while the maintenance is in progress.

What the FBR advised taxpayers to do

The FBR urged all taxpayers and stakeholders to plan ahead and complete time-sensitive obligations before the maintenance window began. Specifically, the Board recommended:

  • File any returns with imminent deadlines before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, 8 August
  • Settle tax payments that fall due during the outage period in advance
  • Complete new registrations: including POS terminal registrations: ahead of the shutdown
  • Issue digital invoices for any transactions that would otherwise require real-time reporting during the window

When services are expected to resume

All five systems are scheduled to come back online immediately upon completion of the maintenance activity at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, 10 August 2026. The FBR has stated that no gradual restoration is planned and that full functionality should be available from that point.

What the evidence does not yet establish

The FBR has not specified the nature or scope of the maintenance work being performed, nor has it indicated whether any new features or interface changes will be introduced when the systems return. No contingency arrangements for taxpayers facing genuine emergencies during the outage have been announced.
